These plastic shelf clips are a waste of money. I've lost count of how many shelves have fallen off the wall. Yes, they were put on wooden studs, but the plastic BROKE.I have a bag full of clips that broke in half. I would like Closet maid to replace them with a sturdier product.

Clips fail over time
Frustrated
Feb 23, 2015
The plastic clips used to attach the shelves to the back of the wall and to the supports get brittle over time and fail. The result is the entire shelving falls down. This has happen to three of my closets. It is not a matter of weight as one of the shelves only had a few items on the shelf. The clips become brittle and crack. They then just break in half. The back of the clips are still attached to the wall. I suspect the plastic for the clips is UV sensitive. These systems need metal clips that will not deteriorate over time.

Broken plastic shelf clip replacements
Plastic shelf-clip replacer
Oct 2, 2014
As with a previous reviewer, I also experienced the plastic shelf clips to break and as a result the shelf came free from the back of the wall. To ensure a more secure and durable shelf installation, I'd recommend using metal C-clips to fasten the back of the shelf to the wall and forgo the plastic clips which are subject to breaking with heavy loads on the shelf. I will follow the previous reviewer's suggestion and go to Home Depot where he indicated he'd successfully found metal C-clips to replace the broken plastic shelf clips.

Replace failed plastic c-clips with metal c-clips
metal clips
Nov 24, 2013
I have had three instances of failed plastic clips, one at my house and two at my sister's house. In the case of my sister, I fastened a two by four to the wall to have better and more plastic fasteners. They still failed. I went to Home Depot and found metal c-clips this time and they are holding fine. My problem is that they come in a kit of 12 at an exorbitant price. Personally, I think Closet Maid should furnish them at no charge to replace failed components. Also, lose the screws and anchors and offer the metal clips in bulk for frustrated home owners.
